HOW TO FLASH BY ODIN

How can I download Odin?

The first thing you have to do is download it. Samsung does not officially share this software but there are developers who do. The best method to find the latest version is to visit this thread of XDA Developers . At the end of the first post you will find all the available versions: make sure you download the last one, currently it is v3.12.3.

The file to download is usually a tablet in which we will find a folder that contains an executable file with name Odin plus the version number and with extension .exe, this is the important one. There are also other files necessary for the program to work but they are not executable and their number depends on the version.

How can I use Odin?

To use Odin with our smartphone we must have Samsung drivers installed on the PC, which are usually installed automatically when you connect the smartphone to your computer through a USB cable. On the smartphone we will activate ‘USB Debugging’ in the developer options (to activate the developer options, go to  Settings> About the device and press several times on Compilation Number ).

Before starting it is always mandatory to make a backup copy of all the information stored in our device.

When opening Odin, we must start it as administrators. To do this, click on the Odin icon with the right mouse button and choose Run as administrator .

Then we must connect the smartphone to the PC in a special way. We will turn off the device and turn it on again in  downloading mode  by pressing the start, power and volume down keys at the same time. Once turned on in this mode you can connect it to the computer.

When Odin recognizes your device in the ‘Log’ box, a new line will appear with the identification number next to ‘Added !!’ (added), this means that Odin is connected to our Samsung device and is ready to flash the software we want.

What do we find inside Odin?

Odin is a program that does complicated tasks with a few buttons and options that we will see carefully.

‘Files [Download]’ box

BL : With this button we can choose the flash file that contains a new bootloader. It is usually an unusual operation so at the moment you can forget about it.

AP : in this box you will use to place the file that contains the new official firmware, ROM or recovery that we have previously downloaded. They are usually .md5 or .tar files that contain the full ROM or recovery image.

CP : This section is usually used to include the modem, in case it is not incorporated in the custom ROM, something that does not usually happen. The modem files are usually type look for the .bin or .tar file.

CSC : in this box you enter the country codes to install ROMs referring to a specific region. This way you can change the localization and language settings. Also in this box it is not usually necessary to enter anything unless the ROM is accompanied by a CSC file.

‘Options’ tab

Auto Reboot : is the first box that appears above on the Option tab  E sta option is always selected by default because what it does is reboot the device automatically to the end of the process, which is necessary for proper installation of the ROM.

Re-Partition : if selected, the ROM we install will not have previous applications or user settings. It is normal not to check this box unless required by the installation process.

F. Reset Time : this box is for resetting in Odin after the process, as well as in the terminal. It is also usually left selected.

Nand Erase All : this is an option that you should not mark for any reason. Unless you know what you are doing.

Flash Lock : do not touch this option, it is used to close the bootloader (or bootloader), if it is open.

Phone EFS Clear : this option appeared from version 1.3 of Odin and is used to delete the contents of the folder / efs of the mobile, so you should never dial it. The EFS folder contains very important data such as IMEI, Sales Code or Product Code, among others, and are essential for the normal operation of the terminal.

Phone Bootloader Update : this option is responsible for flashing the bootloader by overwriting it, so if we already have access to Download / Recovery by keys, we should not use it.

‘Pit’ tab

In this tab we can select files with extension .pit, files in charge of maintaining some configurations that are required for certain ROMs, for example, to describe the position of the partitions. Normally it is not necessary to include these files.

The ‘Start’ button

Once we have placed all the necessary files, we will only have to press the Start button . In the Log box we will have the list of the operations that are being executed. When the installation is finished, the upper left box will appear in green with the word PASS! similar to the image you see below. Once you have finished the process, the device will restart.

How to backup on Android SAMSUNG

What is a backup?

It is an anglicism. A backup is to make a backup of our data (SMS, applications, contacts …), that is, all the information that a device can store and we do not want to lose. It is advisable to perform this backup process before rooting, installing a ROM or anything that involves a risk to the phone information.

Some manufacturers offer their own application to make backup copies (such as LG Backup or Samsung Smart Swicht, for example) and are usually pre-installed. These manufacturers backup applications are usually quite simple to use. Here we explain the main tools that everyone has to make backups and that we will differentiate into two types:

To copy everything your Samsung has / © AndroidPIT

LG Bridge and LG Mobile Switch

To transfer data from one smartphone to another LG has the LG Mobile Switch application. With it we can transfer our data from an old smartphone to the new one, through a Wi-Fi connection or with an OTG cable and adapter .

To make copies on the computer and update the device software we will have to use a computer program called LG Bridge and that we can get directly from the official LG page .

PC backup for beginners

If all this paragraph has sounded like Chinese, too complicated for you, or you just don’t feel like it, you can always connect your Android smartphone to your PC through a USB cable. It is the way to make a backup “by hand”. Through the file explorer of your computer copy the smartphone and paste in the computer the folders of the applications that you want to keep your data and other files such as photos, downloads, music, etc.

A very good trick is to put the date in the file or folder where you have made the backup starting with the year then the month and finally the day, so for example ‘2019_01_12_.’, This way it will always be sorted chronologically, it is The best to avoid trouble when it comes to restore.

Helium (no need to be root)

Helium is a great tool to make backup copies without having to have root access. With it we can make backup copies of our applications and their data. If something happens to our smartphone or we simply acquire a new one, we can restore the data and our applications as they were in the old one. The copies can be made locally on the microSD card or in the internal memory of the terminal and if we purchase the Premium version we can also upload them to the cloud.

Install Helium on the PC and on our Android

1. Install the application on your Android smartphone.

2. Install Helium on your computer .

3. Connect your smartphone to the PC through a USB cable.

4. It is necessary that USB debugging is enabled on your Android device.

5. You may be asked to change the USB debug mode to a PTP connection (camera sharing mode).

6. You must allow your PC to access your Android terminal.

8. You should see the same notice on your Android smartphone. Now you can disconnect the smartphone from your PC.

9. Caution: In the event that you restart your Android smartphone you must reactivate the connection with your PC.

Make backup copies of your Android with Helium

1. In the Helium application on your Android you can see two ‘Copy’ and ‘Restore and Synchronize’ pertañas. I guess you are able to guess that the first one is to make the backups and the second one to restore those copies.

2. To start we will select all applications. To do this you just have to press where it says ‘Select’ and all of them will automatically appear at the top as selected.

3. Once all the applications have been loaded you can, if you only want to copy the data, check ‘Only application data’. If you also do not want to copy all the applications you can select them by sliding your finger down on the screen, the complete list of applications will appear where you can mark and unmark at ease.

4. Once you have made your selection you just have to press the ‘Copy’ button next to all the icons of your applications. Then you can choose the destination: internal memory, microSD and Premium users also available backup copies in the cloud of Google Drive or Dropbox.

5. In the ‘Restore and Synchronize’ tab you can manage your copies and your accounts in the cloud, and you can even manage synchronizations on your other devices.

6. When making the backup you can encrypt it with a password if you wish to protect the data against third parties, but you will need to enter it to restore the data.

7. To restore you just have to select in the ‘Restore and Synchronize’ tab the place where you have the backup of the applications and select the ones you want to restore. Once you have selected the applications you just have to press the ‘Restore’ button.

Note: You can do all this also on your computer through the ‘Download for PC’ menu option, where a URL with one numbers appears. Copy this address in the window of your internet browser and you can save backup copies of your Android smartphone on your computer and restore them from there without taking up space on your smartphone or your microSD.
